The Department of Food & Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Chandigarh Administration, is entrusted with the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in the Union Territory of Chandigarh.
In accordance with the revised public distribution system, the Department no longer distributes food grains or kerosene through Fair Price Shops (FPS). Instead, eligible beneficiaries receive food subsidy benefits directly into their Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism.
Further, in line with the Government’s digital payment initiatives, the Department is progressively adopting the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) framework for the disbursement of benefits, ensuring a secure, transparent, and efficient payment system.
